Our inner calendar is our menstrual cycle – yet so many women are unfamiliar with its rhythms, wisdom, and power.
We were never taught to work with our bodies – about the power of our bodies and menstrual cycles. We learned to push through, override signals, and live according to external schedules that doesn’t always honour our internal flow. Our cycles have been vilianised in our society, we have been conditioned to dread ‘that time of the month’, yet it’s our power, and when you learn the beauty of it and begin to see the wisdom of it, a new world of possibilities open up.
In my work with the Rose, this remembrance and unlocking of inner wisdom happens organically, because the Rose is a Divine Feminine archetype and keeper of the feminine mysteries. In my personal journey with the Rose I have found my cycle becoming regular, calmer, deeply intuitive, and my hormones have found equilibrium and balance.
I love journeying with the energies around me, be it transits, astrological movements, the moon phases, or the seasons, and they’re very powerful indeed, I’ve seen that our internal calendar is way more important and powerful to tap into than anything outside of us. When we ignore it, we disconnect from ourselves and our bodies. When we honour it, life softens, clarity increases, and our energy becomes sustainable.
Our cycles may not always align with the world around us – but in this lies the invitation to listen inward.

The four inner seasons of the menstrual cycle
Just like Nature – and we ARE nature – moves through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, your menstrual cycle does too. Each phase carries a unique energetic quality that supports different ways of living, working, creating, and resting.
Inner Spring: follicular phase
Theme: Renewal, ideas, clarity, possibility
Inner Spring begins after menstruation ends. Estrogen rises and energy starts to rise, the mind clears, and curiosity awakens. This lasts from 6-10 days.
This is a powerful time for:
- Planning and visioning
- Brainstorming new ideas
- Starting projects
- Learning and studying
- Deep cleaning and organising your space
You may feel lighter, more optimistic, and open to what’s next. Honour this phase by allowing yourself to dream again.
Inner Summer: ovulation phase
Theme: Visibility, connection, expression
Ovulation brings a natural spike in energy that lasts a few days, because it’s when estrogen peaks (meaning also peak fertility and think of it in terms of creative projects as well). This is when you’re most outward-facing, magnetic, and expressive. This lasts about 3-4 days.
This phase supports:
- Executing plans
- Hosting or attending social gatherings
- Teaching, speaking, or presenting
- Collaboration and communication
- Pleasure, play, intimacy, and joy
You’re more open to giving and receiving love here – from others and from life itself. Do what lights you up.
Inner Autumn: luteal phase
Theme: Reflection, creativity, truth, boundaries
Estrogen drops and progesterone rises. Hormonally, energetically & emotionally huge shifts happen as energy turns inward and sensitivity increases. You may feel a strong pull toward your inner world – emotions, intuition, and deeper truths. This phase is 10-14 days.
This phase is ideal for:
- Creative practices (painting, journaling, dancing)
- Emotional processing
- Refining and completing projects
- Honest conversations and boundary-setting
- Tending to your inner altar and heart space
When you’re tuned into your body, the shift into this phase becomes unmistakable. Listen carefully because deep wisdom lives here.
Inner Winter: menstrual phase
Theme: Rest, release, renewal
Inner Winter is a sacred pause. It’s a time for rest, withdrawal, and deep listening. Estrogen and progesterone levels both drop and the endometrial lining releases (bleed). This phase lasts 3-7 days.
Honouring this phase looks like:
- Resting as much as possible
- Reducing stimulation and obligations
- Reflecting on the past month
- Allowing emotions to move and release
- Receiving rather than giving
When you truly rest during this phase, you set the tone for the entire month ahead. Deep rest now creates clarity, calm, and resilience later.
Why working with your cycle changes everything
When you live in alignment with your menstrual cycle:
- Energy becomes cyclical instead of depleted
- Burnout decreases
- Creativity flows more naturally
- Emotional regulation improves
- Self-trust deepens
Rather than forcing consistency every day, you learn to honour your rhythm. Nature shows us this all the time – she has a rhythm. And by flowing with your menstrual cycle’s wisdom you tap into this naturally rhythm that’s flowing through you right now – and life becomes easier.
Our bodies stop being something to manage – and becomes something to collaborate with.
When the outer world doesn’t match your inner world
There will be times when your inner Winter lands during a busy season, or your inner Summer arrives when the world feels quiet. This doesn’t mean you’re out of sync, it invites you to listen to your body.
My inner Winter was right when the new year started – when everyone was in excitement and celebration. So I listened to my body and stayed home, reading my book, reflecting on the past year, dreaming about the new year… And it was wonderful, just what I wanted!
How to start living in cycle alignment
- Track your cycle gently (no pressure, just noticing)
- Name your inner seasons – seeing how they correspond to the actual seasons
- Adjust your expectations based on the phase you are in your cycle
- Plan rest as intentionally as taking action
- Treat menstruation as a reset, not an inconvenience
- Work with the medicine and consciousness of the Rose – she’s a living consciousness and archetype that supports menstrual health and remembrance of our inner wisdom.
Small shifts create profound changes over time.

What if my cycle isn’t regular?
You can still work with the felt sense of your energy. The inner seasons are energetic states. And even if your cycle isn’t regular you will still feel the energetic shifts happening.
Can I use this approach if I’m not menstruating?
Yes. Even without bleeding, many women experience cyclical energy patterns that mirror these phases.
How long does it take to feel the benefits?
Many women notice subtle shifts within one or two cycles, especially when prioritising rest during inner Winter.
Is this a spiritual or practical practice?
Both. It’s deeply embodied, intuitive, and practical – it’s grounded in listening to your body and tapping into the internal shifts we feel.
